The story of Calvert
Our new site has a new font. For the titles and headings we have Calvert, rather appropriate considering our East London address, Calvert Avenue.
The slab serif typeface was designed by Margaret Calvert in collaboration with the Monotype Type Drawing Office in 1981 for use on the Tyne and Wear Metro, later adapted for the Royal College of Art. Margaret, famed for her road signs and pictograms went on to design signs for British Rail and Gatwick Airport.
Margaret was awarded a well deserved Honorary Fellowship by University of the Arts London in 2011.
