Vegetable Tanned Leather

Calvert Leather: Our signature Calvert Leather group uses an Italian hide that has been washed and oiled to bring out the natural grain and touch of the leather giving a relaxed as well as luxurious look. This leather is strong and resilient and will build up a patina that is individual to each wearer. A bit of hide food or leather polish will help to keep it clean and supple. Beware of colour transfer from darker leathers onto lighter coloured clothing and vice versa, denim can be a particular enemy.

Small Leather Goods: A bit of hide food or leather polish will help to keep Small Leather Goods clean and supple.

Belts: A bit of hide food or leather polish will help to keep Belts clean and supple.

Mineral Tanned Leather

Raw Cut: Polish all bags with a leather care cream to keep them supple and protected against staining. While scuffs can be reduced with gentle rubbing, water, grease, perfumes, biro inks and direct light or heat may leave permanent damage. Beware of colour transfer from darker leathers onto lighter coloured clothing and vice versa, denim can be a particular enemy.

Jetset: The smooth waxed leather in the collection is finished with heavy metal rollers producing a surface with a soft gloss. This finish can show signs of wear quite easily but warming the oils by buffing with a soft cloth will allow some recovery. Eventually the leather will build up a singular finish that is a bit more relaxed.

Fabrics

Waxed Cotton

This traditionally manufactured water resistant British Waxed Cotton fabric was originally developed for mariners from as early as the C15th. It cannot be washed or dry-cleaned, but can be sponged gently with a soap-free damp cloth. Always allow the item to dry thoroughly after use, in a cool, airy environment. Never pack away damp. Reproofing will maintain the waterproof qualities and extend your bag’s life.

Nylon

Ripstop: The Ripstop group is made without any leather. The nylon Cordura© fabric has a PU waterproof coating on the reverse. The straps are moulded silicone. The bags are machine washable at low temperatures and we advise turning them inside out for both washing and hanging to dry. The metal fittings are PVD coated, to the strongest finish, but slight wear and some chipping is normal.

Travel/ Cycle: The trademarked Cordura© nylon used for the Travel/ Cycle group is guaranteed for its durability and resistance to abrasions, tears and scuffs. The bags are tested to international travel standards and are also PU proofed. It cannot be washed or dry-cleaned, but can be sponged gently with a soap-free damp cloth.
